Linux Mint Cinnamon Intel I7 Iso Download

I installed Mint on a Dell Xps 13 and have had CPU/graphics issues, specifically, strong coil whine and infrequent screen flashes. On Windows on the same machine it mostly cleared up with a graphics update so I'm hoping for similar luck on Mint.

System info:

Graphic card info (I think):

Driver manager says 'No proprietary drivers are in use.'

I found https://01.org/linuxgraphics/ but this site is not very explanatory. I don't really know what a graphics stack is, and presumably I only need one layer, and I don't know which.

Installation latest version into Linux Mint. Download from official website installation package for the correct version for your system. Run the program on Linux Mint. Intel Linux Graphics Drivers Installer, when run, makes the test of name distribution, and if it's not Ubuntu, it refuses to work. Therefore we will make so that the program 'thought' that running in Ubuntu. Download Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa. Your favorite edition below. If you're not sure which one is right for you, 'Cinnamon 64-bit edition' is the most popular.

I did attempt to install their installer which gave me libpackageglib2-18(>=0.9.4) not available. I could chase that down if I knew I was on the right track.

To know whether I'm on the right driver, it would be good if I can learn

  1. From my system, what driver am I using?
  2. From information on the Internet, what driver is current for my system?

And of course I would like to install that driver.

To check which video drivers are installed in the operating system

correctly said @cas that the video driver Intel is included in the Linux kernel. To update the video driver, you need to update the kernel. To update the video driver from the https://01.org/ site, simply connect the repository 01.org (only consider this https://01.org/linuxgraphics/forum/graphics-installer-discussions/new-ubuntu-16.04-packages-use-unknown-key-again) and apt updateor download and run https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/intel-graphics-update-tool-linux-os-v2.0.6

although your problem may not be this. Decision:

Open this link https://pkgs.org/download/libpackagekit-glib2-18 and download the libpackageglib2-18 for Ubuntu 17.10. install it and do the Intel's installation process again. Good luck.!

After upgrading from Linux Mint 17.2 to LM 17.3, cinnamon crashes on the first movement of the mouse. I also downloaded the iso and installed to a memory stick. Using this to boot gave the same problem. Linux Mint runs fine on fallback mode and when I try to restart cinnamon I get the following message ...

Window manager warning: Log level 6: The program 'cinnamon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 4593 error_code 8 request_code 134 (SYNC) minor_code 16)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I strongly suspect the NVIDIA drivers are involved and have tried to use the following drivers ...
driver : nvidia-304 - distro non-free recommended
driver : nvidia-173 - distro non-free
driver : nvidia-304-updates - distro non-free
driver : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin

The 304 and 304 updates drivers give the fault described while the nouveau driver freezes the whole machine and I have to hardware reset it.

The severity of the bug is that I can only use Linux Mint in fallback mode but all software seems to run OK. The problem always happens either from the HDD upgrade install or from the memory stick run software.
